PPCRV warns voters vs fake party-lists

MANILA, March 15, 2010—The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) has warned voters against fake organizations from the ranks of the party-list system.

PPCRV chairperson Henrietta de Villa is calling on people to be careful in voting party-lists by examining the background of their representatives.

“Invest some time and research on candidates that include the party-list,” de Villa said.

The poll watchdog noted that many bogus party-list groups will crowd out legitimate and deserving from a fighting chance as happened in the past elections.

The risk with fake groups, she said, is not only it elbows out truly marginalized sectors but it serves as the backdoor entry for traditional politicians in the party-list system.

“Party-list now has deviated from the intention of the law spirit of the law,” de Villa said. “…so the real marginalized (groups) loses a chance to win.”

Meanwhile, anti-fraud group Kontra Daya staged a rally in front of the Commission on Elections in Intramuros, Manila Monday to demand an investigation regarding accreditation of fake party lists for the May 10 elections.

The group also demanded that the Comelec look into reports that Presidential son and Pampanga Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo and Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes are being eyed for nomination by certain party-list groups. (CBCPNews)
