ANTIPOLO CITY, Philippines—Using psy-war, National Democratic Front human rights chief Fidel V. Agcaoili has accused the Philippine government of ‘setting’ the stage for more human rights violations (HRVs) as Department of National Defense is now pushing its final phase of ending the more than four decades of Maoist insurgency in the Philippines.
In a statement published at the Communist Party of the Philippines’ (CPP) official website, http://www.philippinerevolution.net/, Agcaoili said that Defense Sec. Norberto “Bert” Gonzales is now engaging in massive disinformation in an attempt to support the regime’s plans to intensify HRVs, particularly extrajudicial killins, just before the May elections.
The proof of the alleged “setting of the HRV stage” is the series of killings of supporters of different political parties by motorcycle-riding assassins, just near military and police detachments.
Agcaoili called Gonzales’s final plan is but “a pipe dream of a delusional clerico-fascist whose days in power are numbered and who is in hysterics over the recent successful tactical offensives of the New People’s Army (NPA).”
The communist leader also lambasted the rumors that Gonzales and the Civil Relations Service of the Armend Forces of the Philippines (AFP-CRS) about the ‘imagined’ rifts within the CPP and the NPA. Agcaoili even called the tactic as “”another psywar fiction designed to facilitate the scheme to intensify extra-judicial killings of activists and even political oppositionists by AFP and the Philippine National Police (PNP) death squads.”
“This lie peddled earlier by Gonzales and Gen. Hermogenes Esperon, Jr. was described by Prof. Philip Alston, the United Nations (UN) Special Rapporteur for extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, as a ‘cynical attempt to displace responsibility … for the large numbers of leftist activists turning up dead because of alleged internal purges’ in the revolutionary movement,” Agcaoili pointed out.
Agcaoili expresses fears that the climate of fear and terror that is being sown by the Gonzales and by the AFP and other security forces can lead into a failure of election scenario, thus making Mrs. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to stay in power.
“It is ominous that Gonzales and his minions in the CRS are resorting to disinformation of alleged rifts in the revolutionary movement in the run up to the May 2010 elections. The regime of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo through Gonzales is certainly up to no good in the forthcoming elections,” said Agcaoili. (Pilipinas Reporter)
