Antipolo City, Rizal, Philippines—The Communist Party of the Philippines joins the journalistic community in its quest for justice for the victims of the Ampatuan massacre,
happened a month ago.
In its message, Gregorio “Ka Roger” Rosal, national spokesperson of the CPP said that all communists in the country joins the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) in giving honor to the journalists who have sacrificed their lives in the name of truth, exposing the cruelty and oppression by the bourgeoisie and its cohorts in the government against the Filipino people.
“The whole revolutionary movement is in union with the media peoples in protecting their profession against any kind of terrorism and harassments. Together with the fascist attacks by the armed agents of the state against activists and active critics of the regime, the mass media has also become a target of the terrorism of the fascist forces of the state and by the powerful, who vehemently try to silence journalists and break their determination to probe and expose the truth. Since 1992, almost 100 media workers in the country have been murdered because of their work,” Rosal stated in Filipino.
The communist leader assailed Mrs. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, which is in the past decade he said, had mastered the art of lying and brutally silencing its critics with the help of her cohorts in the different departments and bureaus of the government.
“On the desperation to stop the oppressed peoples to collectively act and fight for their rights, this regime has exerted all efforts to make them remain in darkness. However, amidst the reign of lies and distortion [of facts], media has played an important role in the people’s struggle in exposing the truth and uncovering the lies and distortions made by this administration,” he said in Filipino.
Rosal said that the Filipino people are much thankful to the media persons who have shown militancy just to uncover and bring out the truth; and have worked hard to ask, probe and disseminate the truth, particularly on issues where the interests of the people are at stake.
Furthermore, the communist leader assured the media community that the whole revolutionary movement is ready to help in bringing justice to the victims of the Maguindanao massacre.
“The revolutionary movement also supports the media sector’s struggle against legislations, steps, and suggestions that trample the freedom of the press and those attempt to put media under direct control of the State,” he furthered.
Rosal also urged the media to focus more on the people’s issues and give more space and airtime on pressing issues involving the basic and marginalized sectors of society particularly the working class and the peasantry.
Meanwhile, the communist leader invites members of the media to visit and spend some time in guerilla zones and observe the advances of the Communist Party in introducing socioeconomic, political and cultural reforms in the countryside especially in terms of agrarian reform and governance.
